Jeevan Raj Lohani, PhD, is a Development Economist with an extensive experience in development research, evaluation, and advocacy for more than 15 years. Jeevan obtained a PhD in Public Policy from the School of Public Policy, University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) with a specialization in Economics & Evaluation. He has development consulting experience in South Asia, Africa & the United States.


Jeevan has led more than 120 research/evaluation missions and has more than 20 academic/professional publications. He has helped a multitude of agencies including government and non-governmental organizations to build data systems to monitor and evaluate their initiatives, generate inferences from the data, and utilize the inferences for program design and/or policy decisions. He has designed projects, prepared grant proposals, prepared research, and survey design, facilitated capacity-building initiatives, developed data quality assurance framework, managed large-scale data, conducted quantitative, qualitative and mixed method data analysis, and played roles in evidence-based policy advocacy through publications and dissemination.

His key sectors of interest include early childhood development, education, public health, nutrition, employment and entrepreneurship, labour migration, social protection and conditional cash transfers, poverty ranking, gender and social inclusion, and climate change.


Jeevan is a firm believer in civil rights, equitable and inclusive approaches to development, ethical research, and evidence-based policy.
